Thanks to all our visitors over the past few months, to our newsletter subscribers, and those who have been watching with interest from other software communities as we worked toward this final release. It has been fantastic to share Terragen 3 with all of you and see the enthusiasm you have for this new generation of the Terragen product line. We can’t wait to see what you can do with all the new features and improvements in Terragen 3!
We may continue to update Terragen3.com from time to time, but our primary site at Planetside.co.uk will resume as the main source of Terragen news moving forward. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ to get first access to the latest info. All versions of Terragen 3 will be shipping with a library of high quality plant models, presets, and tutorial projects, which we will continue to add to over time following the release. Thanks to the new Library feature, you’ll also be able to catalog and organize all this content for easy access at any time. So now it’s incredibly easy to get great results in a very short time. The following scene was created in just 10 minutes using only objects and presets included with Terragen 3!
If you’ve purchased the pre-release of Terragen 3, you should already have access to the model pack in your downloads area, featuring models from Silva3D.com. More than 20 high quality models of trees, grasses, and other plants are included for you to populate your scenes. Another update coming soon will include surface map and terrain presets, special effects, and more in a separate download.
It turns out not everyone who entered the drawing for Terragen 3 Professional was that easy to contact! But we finally heard back from all our winners and got them their license info, and a fine bunch they are. So big congratulations go to:
In addition we had a couple of people who were so great at spreading the word about Terragen 3, we just had to give them licenses as well. Thanks to the following who all referred more than 50 people each:
We’ve been quiet over the past week or so since the release delay, but we’ve got some great stuff to bring you in the coming week. Stick around for details on the library content we’ll be providing with Terragen 3, demonstration of new features like population coloring, and the final release date (with bugs fully squashed!).
We’re extending the pre-release period for Terragen 3 and have just released a new version which is a recommended update for all pre-release users. Unfortunately we’ve become aware of a few last minute bugs and we’re working on them to ensure a solid release, so the final launch will be slightly delayed. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
The good news is that all product options are now available for pre-purchase, including upgrades. You now can buy Terragen 3 Creative or Professional, with or without animation, as well as upgrade from any previous version of Terragen. Educational discounts are also now available. Head on over to our new online store to buy.
If you are an existing customer who will be upgrading, you should be receiving registration information for our new online store very soon. When you log in with your account information, you should see appropriate upgrade products in the store, with correct pricing based on your previous purchase. If you feel there’s an error or you receive multiple registration emails, just contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll sort it out. We are also closing the drawing to win one of 5 TG3 licenses and will be selecting and notifying the winners shortly. Keep an eye on your email! We’ll announce the winners publicly here after we’ve had a chance to get in touch with them.
Get ready for more Terragen on the big screen. Elysium with Matt Damon opens in just a couple of weeks. Check out the trailer below.
Terragen 3 comes with several new population-related features which make it faster and easier to create exactly what you want. Population Instance Editing is an incredibly easy but very powerful new feature which allows you to individually control each and every instance in a population. You can move, rotate, scale, and delete, and of course restore and reset any changes you make. It’s as easy as… well, the video says it all!
In honor of Siggraph, the industry’s greatest annual gathering of computer graphics professionals, today we’re releasing the free version of Terragen 3 so you can all get an early look at some of the upcoming improvements and new features. You can find out more and download your copy by visiting our website (under the Products tab).
Don’t forget that release is less than a week away, and there’s still time to sign up to win a free copy of Terragen 3 Professional. If you’ve already signed up, you can increase your chances of winning by spreading the word about Terragen 3 with your custom referral link.
Note that upgrade purchases for Terragen 2 users are not yet available. The pre-sale is also limited to Terragen 3 Professional, with or without Animation.
We can’t wait to see what you create with Terragen 3!
Thanks to a completely new DEM (Digital Elevation Model) system, Terragen 3 can now natively load and georeference a large variety of different DEM formats, allowing you to use real-world data from hundreds of sources. One of the most popular sources for free DEM data is the USGS National Map Viewer. With Terragen 3, all 3 major sources of heightfield DEM data from the USGS are now loaded easily. Just find your area of interest, select, download, extract the archive, and load the data file with the Heightfield (load DEM) option from the Terrain layout in Terragen. By default, it will be georeferenced, which might put it on the other side of the planet from you, depending on what you download, but simply uncheck Georeferencing in the Heightfield Load node and the terrain will show up right at 0,0,0, in front of the camera in the default scene. I grabbed the a large piece of Yosemite in various formats, including ArcGrid, GridFloat, and IMG, and did a quick render with each. All 3 imported and displayed correctly.
You can even load data from the moon!
Moon DEM data is vailable from NASA’s LOLA (Lunar Orbital Laser Altimeter) data search page.
